How Kolkata-Based Lawmart – India’s Largest Online Law Store Created an Amazing Online Platform for Legal Professionals!

Lawmart – India’s Largest Online Law Store, A unit of “LYKARN E-COMMERCE PRIVATE LIMITED”, is the India’s first full-fledged e-commerce start-up for legal professionals is started by two advocates in the first part of 2021, connects all the Legal Professionals and Tax Professionals in a single platform across India. The founders say they are working to ‘fulfill all necessary requirements of Legal Professional in a simple way’.

In legal sectors, a professional requires legal books and other legal equipment in his everyday practice life but there is no reliable resource for Law Books, Lawyers Accessories & Lawyers Apparels in every part in India specially tier 2 and tier 3 cities. So the lawyers from remote areas are paying a much higher amount to the local book vendor for getting legal books or other equipment.

But Prolay Chakravorty (Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer) along with his college senior cum roommate S. Saha (Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer) want to change this with Lawmart, an online platform that delivering legal books & many more with a reasonable price to the legal professionals each and every part in India.

Their aim is one : To provide service to every professional in the country and fulfill their demand.

“Lawmart provide an online platform where the legal professional can buy all types of Legal Books, Lawyers Uniforms, Taxation Books, Journals, Academic Books, Accessories & many more and giving a decent amount of discounts on every product with cash on delivery and EMI facility and also deliver the order within stipulated period.” Saha says.

Getting started

Prolay was started his professional life as an Advocate at Balurghat District Court, West Bengal in 2017 and he was having difficulty in getting law books in his city as because there is no law book shop over there and he try to buy the books from local books vendor and they charges high for that and it also take lengthy times. Then he discusses that issue with some of his college friends and he finds that everybody was suffering from this issue, especially those who belong from remote areas. Prolay really worried about it.

“I started doing market research and tried to solve this problem for the Legal Community. So I met so many colleagues of mine and talked to them to create a simple solution about solving this problem, but none of them agreed to do it with me. Finally I met one of my college seniors, S. Saha and we discussed that problem. That time I found that he was super excited to build a problem solving platform with me. Then together we started working for that and visit across the country to find out the correct resources, and finally we created “Lawmart” a simple website i.e., “www.lawmart.in” and an Android Application i.e., “lawmart : Buy Law Books & More” in 2021  to provide legal books in affordable prices to the Legal Professionals across India and we jointly incorporate our company i.e., “LYKARN E-COMMERCE PRIVATE LIMITED” in February, 2021,” Prolay says.

The idea of “Lawmart” was conceived in 2017, and S. Saha soon connected with Prolay, a senior from his college. The duo bootstrapped the company in February 2021 and in June 2022, Mr. A. Biswas also joined them and became one of the directors of the company. The company presently has 16 employees.

The founders claim that around 565 Legal Professionals had registered in the first month of their website’s launch in July, 2021. Today, close to 25000 legal professionals are registered on its platform. Lawmart successfully executes more than 2000 orders a month. Though it is a normal start, the founders believe that this number will increase in the future.

Giving Legal Professionals a simple solution

The team believes its USP lies in a doorstep solution for legal professionals.

“Our motive is solving this unorganized legal books selling sector in an organized way and giving benefit to the legal professionals. We believe that is why we are different from the other book vendors,” Biswas says.

“We started from bare acts, law books, taxation books, legal dictionaries, diaries and journals. Then we realized that why are we dealing with only books? A professional needs apparels like coat, waistcoat, tie and gown in his everyday professional life and requires accessories like advocate stickers, Coffee Mugs etc. for his chamber decoration. So we rapidly added that category in our platform.” he adds.

Future plans

Going ahead, the team plans to reach out to legal professionals from across India.

“We aim to make our platform the largest online law store in India. We also want to start some additional features in future,” Prolay says.
